Galatians
Just read Galatians and realized Paul was essentially terrified that his converts in Galatia would loose their faith, loose their salvation. 5:4 He says, "Christ is become of no effect into you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." He is telling them either pick justification by what Christ did for u, or by what u "think" u can do for yourselves, but you cannot do both. Paul says "if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit u nothing." Because then they are trying to be saved by works and not faith. Faith is the opposite of working our way to heaven by what we do. Faith says, "Jesus I cant do anything, you did it ALL. Thank you!" We R saved by faith alone. We prove that we are saved by works as James says, but our works do not save us. We do good out of gratitude to God to repay him for his grace, not in order to earn his grace. "It is by grace you have been saved, through faith, not of yourselves, lest any man boast." It seems like a paradox but it is not. Jesus said "if ye love me ye will keep my commandments." We do good to show we love God, not because we hope the good we do will save us. Jesus alone can save us. "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." We live by the spirit of the law, meaning love God and others. It is no longer a list of rules to follow but instead a heart of God. We have the heart of God if we are in Christ through his spirit. We R to live from this heart that was implanted in us, not a rule book.
