An Act of The Will
We are saved and sanctified by our will. The Christian walk is not passive, it is a fight. "Fight the good fight of the faith" Paul says. "Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." We "will" ourselves into the faith; we choose it. We do not work ourselves in, but faith is an act of the will. We are not puppets. "Choose this day whom you will serve." Likewise we are sanctified by our will. The Holy Spirit enables us to choose good, but he does not force us to choose good, we still have to choose it of our own will. "If by the Spirit you put to death the misdeed of the body you will live." Rom. 8:13. We have to intentionally kill sin every day and choose life every day. Also 2nd Timothy 2:21 "If a man therefore purge himself from these (iniquity), he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the masters use." Meaning God can use the one who purifies himself. "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." It is not a passive act like "well if the Spirit leads me to read the Word I will." No our walk is intentional. It takes disciple. We have to work at it. Our work does not save us, but, if we are saved, we will work, because we love God. :)
